Binky Wars: The Diaper Strikes Back
Sigh… So much for the accomplishment. Around 11:30 PM, I noticed that Monkey had been awake and fussy for a while. Usually we just let himself fuss back to sleep, but after 10-15 minutes it's time to check on things down there. He also sounded particularly sad, so I thought he was just sicky and went down to give him some Mamma-snuggles and tuck him in again. Well… I got down there, and realized that he had diarrheaed out of his diaper, through his pajamas, and onto the crib! I called Husband down to help deal with things while I changed the diaper.
When I got the diaper off (I promise, I'm getting to the binky at some point) I noticed that his entire bum area was bright red! Poor Monkey… He was also REALLY uncomfortable as I cleaned him—instead of the usual "don't hold me down, I'm busy!" cries, he sounded like he was in a lot of pain. So I cleaned him up, new jammies, Husband had finished changing the sheet and mattress pad, and I just rocked him in my arms for a while. Poor guy was still so uncomfortable and upset, that Husband suggested we give him an unclipped binky (we felt so bad for his poor little bum!). Husband also gave him an unclipped binky for his first nap of today, because he still felt bad.
I just put him down for another nap—this time without any kind of binky—and he screamed for about 5 minutes straight, then off a bit, then a minute, and now the baby monitor shows still and quiet. Monkey's life is going to be a little different the next few days, but hopefully I can keep this going in the right direction…
