So Maybe I'm a Show-Off....
… but I'm so stinkin' proud of this cake! Recently Husband had a birthday, and this is what I put together for him. It probably took me about 10 hours, including making the modeling chocolate pieces, baking the cakes, icing, and decorating.
Picture is a bit blurry... Blech. But, everything you see is edible, except for the Tux and Macbook on the top! I commissioned a couple friends of mine that are good at clay modeling to make that for me, because it's so stinkin perfect for Husband!
Close-up of the adorable Mac-using Tux. You can see a (Khaos flavored) Monster can in the background, and a pile of six-sided dice to the side. I need to learn how to paint on modeling chocolate…
I asked my best friend's husband to write some kind of code that I could put on the cake that incorporated his name, age, and Happy Birthday somehow... preferably in python, which is his favorite programming language. Unfortunately, I didn't understand the code myself, so when I had to cut off "Birthday, [Husband]" I messed up the code! Oh well… He still loved it. Also, is that comm badge awesome or what?
I decided to pipe a circuit board design on the sides of the cake that didn't have writing. I looked at a few pictures from Google Images to get a rough idea, and then sketched on the icing with a toothpick before I piped.
I love how the sides turned out. Check out the other (original flavor) Monster can!
Shot of the top of the cake, so you can see some of the details better. Next time, I think I will color the modeling chocolate instead of painting it... The XBox controller would have turned out so much better!
