Yes, I've Been Absent...
Not that I have any readers to notice… Haha.
Last week was crazy busy and way too much fun to be in front of a computer for any length of time! I took Wednesday off work so I could finish tidying the house and finish Husband's cake (which I think turned out fantastical, even though I had a last minute snafu with the laptop on the Tux breaking…). Husband's parents and younger sister arrived from Far Away about mid-afternoon, and we had all kinds of fun with them. They were in town for SIL A's wedding on Saturday, which was lovely. A and K (her new husband) looked so happy all day! Husband and I hadn't been to a wedding (of our own religion) since our own, so it was really nice to be able to be reminded of the promises we made to each other and to God. Monkey was miraculously good most of the day—events were pretty spread out, so he had a chance to have two good naps, and he was incredibly adorable in his little pinstripe vest and blue tie that matched his daddy!
Of course, most of my focus was on my little Monkey, and keeping him happy and amused… He was toddling around, and once we got him a little excited he was high-fiving everyone in sight! The photographer was impressed at how he posed for the camera, and how he even grinned. The reception ended an hour after his usual bedtime, so we left a bit early to avert a crank-meltdown. Towards the end of our time there, he wanted to go back and forth and back and forth between dancing in front of the DJ speakers and looking at the wedding cake. We also made sure Monkey got a chance to sign the guestbook before we left.
Monkey-Meltdown anectode of the event: Family arrived early to the Reception, so we could take a few more pictures. Most of us had boutonnieres, including an adorable little hydrangea for Monkey. We put it on with a straight-pin to take a couple pictures, and then K's mom went to find a safety pin for Monkey's boutonniere. In the meantime, I decided to take it off, so he doesn't stick himself. Well… I suppose his best excuse was that he had recently woken up from a nap and hadn't finished his dinner, because the taking of the flower was a TRAGEDY. He was literally so overcome with emotion that he couldn't even sit up, and was basically in a floor-licking position!
But it's OK, Daddy saved him from a lifetime of despair, and then K's mom came back with a safety pin, so all was right with the world. Hooray!
