Taking the Monkey to the Aquarium
Last Saturday morning, Husband turned to me and said "Let's go to the aquarium! There's one 25 minutes away, and it's only $9/person, and they have penguins!" (OK, he didn't say exactly that, but it's how the conversation played out). Now, we had never really taken Monkey anywhere for his benefit… We always decided to go somewhere, and took Monkey along with us. The aquarium ended up being the perfect trip. We started out with sandwiches at Subway (where we learned that Monkey can handle a juicebox… wow!) and then headed up to the aquarium. It was a great place for little kids, as it had a step/bench around the entire perimeter of all the rooms, so Monkey could climb up and look at things himself. We started with the local exhibit, which had things like trout and frogs… It also had things for Monkey to climb on.
There was a long wetlands exhibit that didn't have glass around it. I think Husband enjoyed it more than Monkey, because I don't think Monkey actually saw anything in it…
The trout were OK, but the toads were fantastic! I don't think I can embed the video, but here's a link to a ">video I took on my phone and then posted on youtube. There was a tank with 10 small toads in it, and some of them were hopping around, and he just loved it. It was great! (Hint: The video is arguably the best part of the post!)
There was also a little play area with some very well protected goldfish tanks, and some tunnels for kids to crawl around in.
We also saw most everything else the aquarium had to offer… though by the time we got to the South American exhibit, Monkey was tired and threw a tantrum when we left the python tank (I don't think he even saw the python… I think he just liked looking at the water with the mist on it.) Which was unfortunate, because we hadn't seen the Gentoo penguins yet!
Monkey is about the same height as the Gentoo penguins, according to the pictures on the wall.
I don't want to be heeeeeereeeee!
What, there's a baby?
We were a little disappointed that we couldn't see the penguins very well—there was a HUGE crowd. We did get to see them swim around and dive, and that was pretty cool. Unfortunately, my camera card was completely full after I took the pictures by the wall! I got this one on the internal memory of my camera…
