Or, Vignettes from a Sushi Restaurant.
Yesterday, we went out for sushi with Monkey. He did his usual flirt-with-the-Asian-waitress bit, of course! He was actually kindof cranky the whole time, though. He ate most of our pickled ginger (he loves that stuff!) and a few rolls of sushi.
Husband said we should get/make him a shirt that says "Can I have your number?" I asked him why, and not a minute later one of the waitresses came by and tickled Monkey's cheek and talked to him about what he was doing. After she walked away, Husband looked at me pointedly and said "Because of that. Because he's such a flirt!"
Like I said earlier, Monkey ate most of our pickled ginger while we waited for our rolls. (Mommy forgot to bring pre-dinner snacks. And a bib.) He kept saying "please" (more like "eese?") pointing at the pickled ginger bowl, and so we gave him a piece. Then, he pointed at the wasabi bowl. I asked him if he was sure, if he really wanted that, and then I held the bowls apart so I could tell for sure which he wanted. Sure enough, it was the wasabi! I took a tiny spot of it, and put it on his finger. He… well, he ate it. I really wish I had a picture of the look on his face—he screwed it up like was going to laugh or cry, but then he asked for more! When I was done with my chopsticks, I put another tiny dot on the end, and handed it to him… he ended up eating two more dots! Crazy child.
When we first sat down and got him situated, he looked around and said "Fries? Fries? Fries?" (The last time we ate out together, it was at a burger place, so he had chicken strips and fries.) I said, "No, honey, I'm sorry, we don't have fries today."
Well. He looked at me, looked at Husband, and then slammed his fist on the table and shouted, "NO!"
It was sooo funny, and sooo hard not to laugh so hard at him! Maybe you had to be there, but the way he did and said it, he seemed so much older than he is! He's so dramatic…
