Mamma's Little Helpers: Jewelry and Hair Accessory Organizers

If you're anything like me (which I hope for your sake you're not) you probably have a lot of necklaces… bracelets… earrings… watch bands… hair bows… Oh, you know, just the basics!

Anywho, I used to store my necklaces, bracelets, and watch bands in one drawer of these things, and my earrings bunched together between the other two:

Needless to say… It didn't work so well. So, several years ago, I came up with this thing:

It's the freaking easiest thing ever! I had an old cork board that I didn't have a use for anymore, and I bought some fabric and matching ribbon at JoAnn's. Hot glued the fabric to the cork board bit, hot glued the ribbon to the faux wood, and used clear push pins and small cup hooks to hang things from. Voila! (I also used the rest of the ribbon as a hanger—used a combination of hot glue and nails to secure it.)

(And by nails, of course I mean upholstery nail things, because that's what I had on hand…)

For my earrings, I used a giant piece of the same fabric, a dowel, and a coordinating piece of loosely woven tulle. My mother-in-law sewed the fabric to the tulle (I didn't—and still don't—have a sewing machine) and I hot glued that to the dowel. At the ends, I hot glued more ribbon around a few times to be a hanger. Love it!

Well, this setup worked for a while. When I got my hair cut last year, I started collecting bows and flowers to pin back my bangs. I clipped them to the ribbon hanger, which worked for a while… And then I collected more. My bigger flowers were getting kindof crowded and deformed, which was sad, and did you notice the flowers that were just sitting on top of the cork board? That wasn't working for me.

The fix? Simple! This afternoon, I pulled out a roll of ribbon and the glue gun, and just added another ribbon that was only attached at the top and the bottom to the each side. I was able to slip the ends under the ribbons that go along the top and bottom, so you can't even tell that it's been added on to. And, check it out now!

I did hot glue a bit in the middle, too, because I wanted to make sure it was stable. Here's a close up of the new ribbon with bows:

I heart my jewelry organization stuff. It's just too bad I made these four years ago, and can't share pictures of the making with you!
