2011 Christmas Decor
I am so happy that it's Christmas time again! Christmas is one of my favorite seasons of the year, and I get an emotional high from just wandering through the aisles of Target or browsing through Pinterest… I just love decorating the house, listening to Christmas music, peppermint-anything, and making/buying/scheming up gifts for everyone I love. This year I'm making a lot, and while I'm sad that I can't quite post anything about it yet, I will definitely have some blog topics for January!
Today, I'll show off my so-far for general house decor, and then later this week, I will show you some hacks that I used to make my Christmas tree happier.
We'll start in the front room. I don't have a mantel, or ledges, or anywhere traditional I can decorate, but I do have two large bookcases around the TV. Last year, I just shifted some things around and stuck some stuffed penguins up there, but this year I decided to clear off the "decor" shelf and set up our Christmas village. And, obviously, by village I mean house! I'm also taking a risk this year and put some garland and penguins on top of the bookcases—it's a risk, because Roy likes hanging out on top of the bookcases! I decided that I will only pick up those decorations three times before I pack them up, so I'm not constantly redoing it.
(Do you like the penguin on top of the TV? If you don't get it, ">you should watch more old British comedy!)
Let's take a glance at the front door, which I decorated with some felt shapes stuck up there with painter's tape. It's up there at a perfect level for Monkey, and he really likes taking them down and putting them up again!
…But not as much as he likes his candy canes! I gave him full reign of the plastic candy cane decorations, each of which have been on at least a dozen different branches since we pulled them out. More on the tree later this week, as I'm particularly proud of some of my tree hacks.
OK, got to keep it real, this is what the stuffed penguins and snowman usually look like!
In the kitchen, I did a very similar vignette on the windowsill above the sink that I did last year, except more penguins. The littlest penguin I picked up at the Target dollar spot—score!
Stove area, with some new decorative towels I picked up at Kmart for half off…
I am just loving that ornament shape, with the fat around the middle and the pointed top and bottom! But we still love penguins, of course.
And that's our Christmas decor! I'm a little disappointed that we probably won't have outside lights up this year, but it got super-cold super-quickly, and so it's probably not worth it. Maybe I'll just do the porch, or the front of the garage… Oh, and also, I have a Christmas printable in the works, so keep an eye out for that one! (Plus I may or may not be making a garland for the kitchen window. It depends on how much time/energy I have this week…)
